Place of my birth and childhood, I belong to this land, and in my youth, I knew every square inch of it. The old tree is one of many on the path that was used by Wordsworth, his friends and lovers of the Lake District.
Woodlands in the morning sun are such joyous places, and when they are full of the bloom and scene of bluebells, they create their own music and wellbeing.
The restless nature of the sea provides a fascination, I think a wholesomeness, one that refreshes the soul and recharges the batteries of life!
A cactus must be tough to flourish in harsh conditions. When it flowers, we fleetingly glimpse its glory: at this moment, its simple beauty helps us to understand how the plant represents love and protection.
A relentless tide cleans its shore, as sea meets land: black sands and white foam together create mesmerising patterns
The calm of this vast ocean at evening time brings a peace that is hard to match anywhere else in nature. The trees in the foreground are a bit of a surprise, taken from a boardwalk!
There can be little more pleasurable surely, than to see fields of poppies shimmering in the wind and bathed by the sun. getting close-up in this picture helped me to capture some of this excitement.
Like an abstract painting, the trunk of a large fir tree expresses energy and colour – nature holds, for me, all the cards and is a constant joy.
A transitional moment in our changing seasons, when the green leaves of summer fade into retirement, and the glory of autumn arrives.
I came across this scene quite by accident, dropping down to the river Dove through the woods one winter’s day. I did not expect to experience the rawness of winter as depicted in this scene.
I began to realise that working with digital material gave me instant feedback. The reflections in a river are not what they seem. All the elements of the Dove Dale landscape can be revealed in an instant.
The glass surface of the water as it cascades over a man-made waterfall gives the image a surreal appearance. A fast shutter speed has frozen the moment, while also capturing a hint of colour. The water performs like it is wearing its best coat.
Hidden in the folds of the river, I was astonished to experience these bewildering patterns. Leaves floating atop, released to float downstream on a new journey.
An artist’s canvas; I see a moment in time like no other. A ballet of dancing shapes, and patterns; fleeting yet constant in its narrative – its beauty is beguiling, catch me if you can!
The play of light from the trees, an image caught in the camera that filled my heart with joy. I cropped the image slightly and increased the contrast but otherwise the image is as taken.
The freshness of the blue sky, the white of the Birch trees. This inverted image somehow enhances the abstraction while keeping it dynamic and energetic in its lifeform.
Although not obvious in the camera lens, images present themselves to be captured, endless in their variety and form. Nature telling us that we need to ‘take notice’, perhaps of its great artistry.
Perhaps there is a femininity here. Leaves delicately caught on the surface of the pond. A stillness that begs reflection.
